Paul's Poem
Return to the John Denver Page

I had a wonderful time in Aspen, made so many new friends. I was moved so much by all that had happened, I wrote my very first poem. The poem was eventually to become my first song.

Tears of Joy and Happiness

As I journey to Aspen, I wondered in my mind

Whether John would be there to greet me?

Or whether he would be just a moment in time

He would not be there I thought, no where in sight

Lost forever in time, in the wonders of flight

But as I sat in the sanctuary

A place where he would have loved

I looked up and saw an eagle, in the sky above

I knew then that he was here with me

In the trees, the mountains and the lakes

A friend once more, to share the joy

Of a man who gave so much

As I sit here writing this poem

A message to the world

I came here with tears of joy and happiness

For a man who gave me peace, hope and tenderness

For a man who saved many souls

To live a life of freedom, to live a life of purpose

To have so many goals

Many tears have been shed

Many new friends have been made

But without this man, without his live

I would have not been saved

As I go back to England

A place so far away

I reflect of this week

A great joy in my mind

To go home and feel at peace

With John, right by my side.
